The staff are all very helpful and understanding. My professors were outstanding and are there for their students, to stay on track with school.

Dr. Bains, Mr. Santos, and Mrs. Montesanto all provide hands-on help that helps you better understand the material you’re working on. Dr. Bains is a very energetic, charismatic person who I enjoyed as a teacher. (Just don’t hug her. If you do, also bring her a bottle of hand sanitizer, or she will Panic!!.)

Mrs. Montesanto is tough with work but also the most lovable person.

Mr. Santos is a very competitive teacher when it comes to class but very heartwarming inside. He made me want to go an extra mile to make sure I pass all of my tests and have all of my work in on time.

Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø is an amazing school, and I feel that the professors made a major impact on my education. The students I’ve met in the beginning of my journey have become my family.

I do recommend anyone to receive their certification at Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø.

Newsday Article About Hunter /newsday-article-about-hunter/ Mon, 08 Jul 2019 02:37:15 +0000 /newsday-article-about-hunter/

Web Application Design and Development Newsday Article

The following excerpt appeared in Newsday on June 16, 2019.

Ally Riggio had taken part in an externship program offered by Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, a technical school with locations in Levittown and Medford, which gave her a chance to intern for a few firms at the Digital Ballpark in Plainview.

When the externship ended, she stayed on as an intern for Wildes.

“Over 60 percent of our interns are offered full-time positions by their externship companies,” says George McRedmond, who leads the Web Application Design and Development program at Hunter.

The program involves about 720 hours in the classroom and 180 hours at an externship site, he says, noting the school sets expectations with companies for its students, including having a dedicated person within the company to work with the interns.

Companies even come to the school while the students are learning and talk about their business and the skills they’re looking for, Hunter president Jay Fund says.

Laura, a nursing graduate, describes, “So, I’m a licensed practical nurse at a nursing home, and I’m also a lab assistant here.

“I was a stay-at-home mom, and Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø offered night classes for licensed practical nursing, and it was the first step that I needed to start my career in nursing.

“The Career Services department helped me.

They helped me build my résumé and a portfolio.

“After graduating Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, I was working full-time in under a month as a licensed practical nurse.

Scott /scott-arena/ Sun, 16 Jun 2019 17:18:38 +0000 /scott-arena/ Why I Came to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø

I came to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø after being out of work for two years. I also had a very strong background in IT, as an advanced user, so I decided to go to Hunter to get a deeper understanding what I already knew.

My Experience with Admissions

I worked very closely with Bridget, and she ran through the entire process of getting started with getting signed up and prepared for school. She was very knowledgeable and extremely professional.

My Experience with Financial Aid

Working with Lisa, she explained the entire process. Once she laid all the groundwork out for me, she guided me through the entire process—complete with all the right answers.

My Experience with Career Services

Working closely with Dan D’Angelo, he and the rest of the team were a constant encouragement. From Good News Mondays to my résumé, my portfolio, and my final preparation for the dreaded job interview, their professional unique approach gave me the confidence I needed to be able to interview with a prospective employer and win the conversation.

One thing Career Services instills in you is that the answer is always “no” until you ask the question. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and don’t be afraid to look and see what’s out there while you’re going to school.

Part of the school’s objective is to not just learn the material. The track is simple: learn the material, get certified, and get a job.

My Classroom and Education Experience

The one thing I will say is the instructors in the CTNS program are tops in their respective fields, and their methods of teaching make the time we must absorb the material that much easier.

Mr. Fetter puts the concepts of hardware and electronics into easy-to-understand terminology by applying things we do in the real world every day. Rik Nevone provides a deep dive into networking and provides the insight I needed to further strengthen the networking knowledge I already had.

Basically, they provided three years of computer science into seven months, so you can imagine they’re up against great odds to help us understand the material and get us to that A+ certification.

My Advice for Future Graduates

First, I think those who are coming into Hunter should have a strong commitment to what they are studying. They should eat and sleep the material and make sure it is committed to memory. Make sure all deliverables for the courses are completed when they are assigned, and take advantage of any extra credit offered.

Bottom line: don’t take this lightly at any time. You’re here for a reason, and your time is limited, so make sure your focus is always on what you’re studying.

Joe /joe-bove/ Sun, 09 Jun 2019 09:23:31 +0000 /joe-bove/

Computer Technician Networking Specialist graduate, Joe, explains, “Well, before I came to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, I was working in retail, managing a retail pharmacy. I’d been doing it for about a decade.

“I was extremely unhappy in my position, unhappy where my career was going. So I made the choice to come to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø.

“I chose Hunter because computers were always a hobby of mine. I was very into putting them together, taking them apart, seeing how they tick. And I decided to come to Hunter to fill in my gaps of knowledge that I didn’t have.

“The program was about seven-and-a-half months, and by the end, I had everything I needed to get my CompTIA certification.

“The Career Services department at Hunter was great. They helped me make a résumé. They helped me with interviewing skills. They helped me with things such as cover letters and thank you notes to employers. And they helped me find a job.

“I was working full-time in my job within three weeks of graduation. Probably it would’ve been sooner, but I graduated right before the Christmas holiday.

“Shortly after graduating Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, I received a call from the head of the IT department that they needed an IT administrator here at the school. So, after coming in and doing a few interviews, I’m now the IT administrator for Â鶹´«Ã½¹Ù꿉۪s Levittown campus.

“In the two years since I’ve been at Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, I’ve seen many students grow and succeed in their new careers.

“If you’re thinking of coming to Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø, my recommendation is do it!

You will not be disappointed.

John /john-connelly/ Mon, 03 Jun 2019 11:31:34 +0000 /john-connelly/

John, a Medical Assistant student, explains, “The instructors are first-rate. All of them are either currently in the medical industry or have been in the medical industry, so they really know their stuff. They can give you their real-life experiences in what they’ve experienced on the job scene, knowing what to expect when you get out.

“They’re also, all of them, are really…you can tell they love what they do, and they bring that to the classroom setting which makes it exciting for those of us who are learning.

“I’m in my, coming up on my last month-and-a-half of school, and then I go actually into my externship.

“And the career placement office is already working with those of us who are graduating in a few months, so it’s exciting graduating. You’ve got your résumé together. They help you put together this incredible portfolio of all the things you’ve accomplished during the school year so you can show that to prospective employers.

“And it’s going great! I have told a lot of others about Hunter already, friends and family, folks that I know of all ages that are looking to get into medicine or computers, that Hunter is a great experience.

“It’s affordable. The timetable works. You know, I know other schools, it takes a couple of years sometimes to get certified, but at Hunter, I’m able to do my Medical Assistant program in less than eight months.

“So, I would tell others who are looking to go to school for either medicine or computers that…check out Hunter.

“I would just say, I wish I had known about Hunter 20 years ago. I would have done a career change and come to Hunter at the time. It’s been easier and better than I ever expected it to be as far as getting an education for a career change.â€

Christina /christina-wergiles/ Mon, 27 May 2019 20:38:34 +0000 /christina-wergiles/

Christina, a Medical Assistant graduate, explains, “I actually made a career change late in life. I was a corporate woman, and I had a calling for the health care industry my whole life. And I didn’t want to look back one day and regret, so I made a switch and pursued what I wanted.

“The way that the modules work, you’re exposed to all aspects of the health care industry—everything from office setting to clinical phlebotomy, EKGs. And depending on the assignment that you were given, you had the opportunity to utilize those skills on actual patients.

“So, I had tremendous opportunities to perform real-life phlebotomy and EKGs and glucose sticks on patients that came into the internal medicine office prior to my actual job that I landed after I finished my program.

“I took classes with Hunter over the course of seven months, which also included my externship. And during my externship, I had the opportunity to interview for jobs so that when I had finished my obligation of hours of my externship here at Hunter, I was able to be employed virtually immediately.

“The Career Services department gave me a wide variety of options to interview with. I had really a wonderful opportunity to pick and choose which one I really wanted to go for.

“I would definitely recommend Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø to anybody that is very interested in a career change, something that’s relatively quick, successful in training you with the skills that you’ll need to use in the actual field that you’re looking to switch into.

“And the level of professionalism, teaching, care. If you struggled, they were right there for you for extra hours if you needed after.

“It was really a wonderful program.â€

Alffy /alfredo-alffy-alvarez/ Sat, 02 Mar 2019 09:53:36 +0000 /alfredo-alffy-alvarez/ Best school ever! When I graduated, I got placed with the best job, and I’m still there to this day, loving what I do. Thanks, Hunter, for the experience!

The teachers, also—each and every one—are the best.

Mr. B., Noel, and Dr. Bains were very helpful teachers. And Laura was amazing for job placement. Thanks everyone.

JoJo /jojo-p-belocura/ Wed, 13 Feb 2019 09:54:41 +0000 /jojo-p-belocura/ Â鶹´«Ã½¹ÙÍø was my best experience as a student. Dr. Bains was not only a great instructor but a great mentor too. She was very involved with each student to ensure everyone passed the NCCT Certification exam. Career Service Advisor Ms. Laura Saracena was great as well in helping students find a job even before graduation. Kudos to Hunter!

Amber /amber-weiss/ Sun, 13 Jan 2019 09:57:58 +0000 /amber-weiss/ I have finally completed what seemed impossible, but I am so proud to be an LPN. Now I can start off by saying YES, there were MANY bumps in the road…This message is only meant for one positive message though: YOU CAN DO IT.

To all current Hunter LPN students and those considering applying, I do recommend this program…Keep your eyes on your prize, and stay positive. There are really great employees whose hearts are truly with you.

To me the 35-60 minute drive from Suffolk County became bearable. The tuition is affordable. The environment is clean, friendly, and very accommodating for resources. My enrollment process was very fast and organized.

Take this little advice from someone who struggled, failed, almost gave up, cried, and fought to say I DID IT, I PASSED my NCLEX, and only a week later I’m EMPLOYED.
